| Year
20 off to a good start!
Thank you for visiting our site. We are now into our
20th year of providing automation tools for the electric
utility industry and have nearly 400 customers signing our
paychecks. This past year our sales billed increased by
50% and our plan is to continue this growth in the coming
years. Our success is a result of our dedicated employees
and their passion for delivering state of the art systems
at the right price points and working with customers who
help us mold our products into every day solutions. Our
major business segments of substation automation, demand
response, capacitor control, and integrated AMR/DA systems
using power line communications are all growing nicely.
Bottom line solutions are powered by our Yukon® platform.
Demand
response often takes a back seat when discussing options
for meeting the increasing demand for energy, but many of
our customers might respond that it is their first choice
for improving load factor and decreasing their costs and
those of their customers. Most of our customers are able
to reduce peak demand by 10% very easily, by controlling
air conditioning, heating and pumping loads. This eliminates
the need to start a gas or oil fired peaking unit or to
buy spot market power and increases their overall load factor.
It is not coincidental that many of our customers are ranked
as the lowest cost providers of power. They have been creative
in offering customer choice and optimizing their energy
solutions. They may also sleep better knowing they have
a reliable tool to exercise when peak demand conditions
hit.
Buying
an automation solution? You want a great product that will
grow as your needs expand, one that makes your life easier
and provides a long-term solution. You want a knowledgeable
vendor who listens to your needs and responds with support
at any time, day or nightone that is attentive
and highly responsive. We try to under-promise and over-deliver.
We want our customers to feel good about their decision
to buy from us and recommend us to others. We try to work
more as a partner than a vendor, as it is a long-term relationship
that develops when you buy an automation solution. It should
be one that is fun and rewarding.

Yukon®
Software Platform
When we launched this platform, we had more than 10 years of
software development experience and strong visions
of where we wanted to take this product. We projected
the Web would be important for displaying information
within and outside the utility. We wanted a scaleable
platform that could serve as an umbrella of applications,
intertwining the key substation and end-point devices
that make up our customer systems. Capacitor control
would be simple, yet elegant, allowing control by substation,
feeder and device, and would interface with all SCADA
control systems. Support of our large number of two-way
power line communication systems was critical, allowing
customers to read several thousand meters and control
several megawatts of load. Now, with our new two-way
Cannon Power Line Communications (PLC), which has lower
price points and higher functionality, we are deploying
many new systems, integrating more distribution automation
solutions, and expanding our software suite. |
Web
browser capability for applications such as thermostat control,
C&I metering, Esubstation™, capacitor control and even
our load control receivers is paramount. Support of multiple
communication paths, multiple protocols, and numerous IED's
and third-party hardware allows our customers to have an
extensive platform that can grow with their needs.
Today, we have more than 150 customers using our
Yukon® systems deployed throughout their utility or
using our hosted solution. What is particularly rewarding
is that it is an operations, engineering and marketing
tool and is used by all with relative ease.
It's
the People That Make the Company
Yes, it's the people we have that we think sets us apart
from others. You will find Cannon Technologies people to
be a lot of fun to work with, very bright and very dedicated.
We are blessed in that all the members of our team have
a combined 800 years of experience in working with electric
utilities. We know this business well.
Optimizing
Energy Delivery
We have had this slogan for a long time and it becomes
truer as the years go by. From our early days, the focus
was monitoring the load of the substation and responding
to provide relief to reduce demand and extend the life of
substations. Today, we have numerous applications, but still
focus on delivering the bread and butter asset management
tools that both monitor and control. By performing predictive
maintenance and real-time monitoring of substation transformers,
switchgear and breakers, you better manage your most expensive
and critical assets. Add in capacitor control, demand response
systems (such as direct load control), thermostats and
distributed generation, and you provide relief to the system
when you need it. Plus, by monitoring the loads of your
customers, you can offer curtailment options and improve
both their bottom line and yours.
Optimizing Energy Delivery through better
asset management, improved system reliability, automatic
and targeted demand management, and customer-focused value-added
services are the tools we deliver. Going forward, more machines
will talk to machines, and the software will continue to
automatically respond to improve conditions and notify the
proper personnel. As communication technology costs and
capability improve, we will add more support for fault and
outage management. It is a fun and exciting time to be in
the automation business.
Strong Solutions with Strong Value Propositions
We don't make a big deal about the many partners we
have in this business, but they are a key to our successboth clients and vendors. We have access to virtually
any product; be it meter, substation device or radio, and
have the ability to turnkey. We spend heavily on R&D,
as we want to keep ahead of the curve and leap frog the
competition. Our new MCT-400 series of two-way power line
communication meters are examples of what our engineering
team can do. Along with other major developments, it has
helped rejuvenate the fastest power line carrier
system and allows voltage and load profile on every meter.
Again, thanks for stopping in. We hope you will check out
