STARS 3 Market Survey Is Integral Part of Award
Winning Marketing Plan

Swank, Member Services Manager for Grundy Rural Electric Coop
of Trenton, Missouri, received an Innovation Award for "Best
Marketing of Automation" from Pennwell Publishing Company,
sponsor of the annual DA/DSM Conference. STARS 3 Software
from Cannon Technologies Inc. was an integral part of the marketing
plan as outlined by Grundy REC.
STARS author, David Sutton, added features to the
existing product that facilitate entry of the marketing survey
designed by Swank. This survey allows a utility to collect very
detailed energy-use related data, storing it in STARS. The information
can be used in the early stages of an energy management program
to identify targets for marketing. If the utility then installs
a DSM/2 load control system, the database becomes part of the
installation and maintenance system, allowing direct access to
LCRs in the field by customer service staff.
Other innovative features of the Grundy REC marketing
plan include integration to an off-the-shelf street and
road mapping program that will help maximize efficiency
of installation and inspections. Marketing slogans, ads,
newsletters, reports, etc. were detailed in the plan. Cannon
