Cannon Technologies Announces New Communication Options for
CBC 7000 Series Capacitor Controller

Minneapolis, MN, August 23, 2005 — Cannon Technologies announces availability of two additional communication options for the CBC 7000 series remotely controlled capacitor bank switch, designed for electric distribution utilities that want to add centralized intelligence to their power factor management strategies.

The CBC 7000 features SelectComm™ interchangeable communication modules which allow upgrades of communication technology whenever needed. All CBC 7000 units feature the same main-board and intelligence, but can be ordered with several combinations of communication and sensor options. Most options, including communications, may be field installed.

Centralized capacitor control offers a cost-effective way to match daily and seasonal requirements in all load conditions, while providing indication of proper operation when combined with substation VAR or Power Factor data. Configuration can be remotely adjusted with a communication link.

Available options currently include a temperature sensor, external CT for monitoring the system neutral, external antenna, and SelectComm™ option boards for 900 MHz FLEX™ paging (one-way), serial communication compatible with DNP 3.0 (typically over utility-owned radio), and TCP/IP (RJ-45 Ethernet connector). GPRS cellular and 1xRTT cellular are expected in 2006.

The base unit functions as a stand-alone controller basing control on time, voltage, or a combination. With the temperature sensor option, control can be based on time, temperature, or a combination. Units with communication automatically fall back to time, temperature, or voltage (or combination) if communication is lost.
