What
is intelligent monitoring, and how does it optimize
energy delivery?
Mike Cannon, manager of our substation systems
group (30+ years in the substation facilities business),
likes to compare intelligent monitoring to a factory-floor
process system for energy delivery. Our clients compare
it to a virtual visit to the substation.
Intelligent monitoring means that data points
are monitored and processed locally in our Substation Advisor®
subsystem, which filters the data through several predictive
maintenance algorithms, alerting designated personnel by
e-mail and/or page whenever problems or impending failures
are predicted. Intelligent Substation Monitoring is an integral
component of our optimization platform. |

Digital Data Gateway
Because the data comes from any connected digital substation
equipment (most protocols are supported), as well as traditional
I/O and equipment sensors we have developed, a comprehensive
real-time picture of the substation is developed and recorded.
Easy, read-only access via a web-browser, from anywhere
in the country is possible, including from your engineering
staff or firm. Limits are easily adjustable via the web
interface.
Integrate to Other Optimizing Applications
Interface to Remote Power Factor Control application for
real-time control of capacitors. Integrate our Direct Demand
Response Server to dispatch instant, targeted load reductions
to protect an overloaded transformer when cooling fans fail.
Build an asset utilization platform that could take gentle
care of an overloaded line, alert you to a slow breaker,
uncover a malfunctioning LTC, and much more.
ASP Option
Implement substation monitoring on just those subs that
represent a cost-effective application by using our Esubstation™
ASP service. This setup requires a Substation Advisor®
in the sub and a broadband connection to the Internet. We
deliver the entire package!
