Mid-Sized Midwestern IOU
At this utility, which is the result of mergers
of several smaller companies, Yukon® is used several
places in the organization. With over 1,000 distribution
feeder capacitor banks under control, the operating engineers
use Yukon® to manage banks, look for failures, and setup
the Yukon® control logic to optimize power factor. The
algorithm is driven by real-time data pulled directly from
the EMS.
Meanwhile, the power marketing group relies on Yukon®
to manage over 60,000 consumer loads representing over 60 MW on
peak. Power marketing uses an installation contractor to manage
portions of the peak management offering. That off-site contractor
uses a limited access view of Yukon® to install and manage equipment
in the field.
Still another group is building out Web-based substation
monitoring in key utility substations and providing monitoring
and alarming access to engineers throughout the company.
Using the simple, yet effective Esubstation™
user interface, a browser, and Cannon's unique, inexpensive
substation equipment sensors, these engineers get information
on abnormal situations in the substation before they cause
a major problem.
The IT department maintains a single Yukon®
installation, using the company's standard Microsoft®
SQL Server 2000 database server. Users from the different
departments see what they need and manage their own business
tasks while IT has only one system to support and backup.
